NEW YORK: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has condemned the coup’s efforts in Guinea and called for the release of President Alpha Conde.
“I personally followed the situation in Guinea very closely.
I strongly condemned the takeover of the government with a gun and called for the direct release of President Alpha Conde,” Guterres Tweet on Sunday.
On Sunday, the Guinean authorities said that the Presidential Palace was attacked by rebels, which announced that they had arrested the country’s president, Alpha Conde.
Kudeta leader Mamady Doumroya, announced the dissolution of the government and rebels declared national night hours in the country.
The US also condemned the spasms of power by the military in Guinea, called on all parties to avoid violence and engage in dialogue.
“Violence and any extra-constitutional actions will only raise the prospects of the guinea for peace, stability, and prosperity.
These actions can limit the ability of the international partners of the United States and other Guinea to support the country because it navigates the road to the national unity and a future Which is brighter for Guinean people, “said a US State Department spokesman who was said in a statement.
