Varanasi: The Indian Management Institute (IIM) team gave its last presentation on the Varanasi District Development Plan (DDP) before the Department for Industrial and Internal Trade (DPIIT) from the Ministry of Commerce through the video-conference on Tuesday.
Leading the team, Dr.
Chandra Mohan Mishra said, “All fields where work and income can be further increased have been elaborated in the final presentation by suggesting the nature of the intervention needed in various sectors, including silk products, glass beads, tourism, agriculture and horticulture , fisheries, livestock and milk, handicrafts, wood carvings and stone repousses.
“Regarding DDP, Mishra told TII that in an effort to accelerate the district’s economic growth, the central government had initiated DDP based on pilots in Visakhapatnam, Muzaffarpur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg , Sirnaur and Varanasi.
“IIM-Lucknow was assigned to prepare DDP which was launched as a pilot project on September 3, 2018.
The first phase report was submitted in January 2019 while in June 2020, the second phase final report was submitted.
After that, the second phase presentation about DDP was given on September 19, 2020 , “he said.
Regarding the weaving industry and silk products, the team recommends the incorporation of the handloom and handicraft departments for better coordination and supervision, replacing Chinese silk to give strength to Indian threads during weaving, intensification of silk and exploring Varansi.
