The IT ministry accepts several complaints related to misleading and unwanted advertisements on social media

New Delhi: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) has received several complaints related to misleading and unwanted advertisements appearing on various social media platforms, Parliament was told on Thursday.

“Meity does not keep an intermediary list including the same social media platform not mandated in IT actions or rules in it.
Meity will realize any non-compliance as and when reported by the user, “he added.
Chandrasekhar further said that following the notification of information technology (guidelines for intermediary and digital media ethics code) in February 2021, intermediaries are needed to adopt a mechanism for repetition of strong complaints including designation Complaint officer.
He notes that this rule empowers users and makes intermediaries responsible for the transfer-moving timely received.
Intermediaries are also expected to remove content that violates any law as and when brought to.
Their knowledge is good through a court order or through Notification by the appropriate government or official agent.

Responding to other questions about the rules of social media, Chandrasekhar said the additional thorough test mandated for large social media companies became effective from May 26, 2021.

The minister said all intermediaries, including large social media platforms were required to comply with these rules; And in the case of non-compliance, the intermediary will lose the release from accountability under Section 79 of the IT Law.
