The key suspect behind violence against Hindus was arrested by Bangladeshi police

Dhaka: A 35-year-old man who was suspected of being a key suspect in many violence against Hinduism in Bangladesh during the celebration of Durga Puja had been arrested, said the media on Friday.
Iqbal Hossain was arrested from the Sea Bazar Bazar Cox area on Thursday night and was suspected of being a person who allegedly put a copy of the Koran in the Puja Durga place in Cumilla, Bdnews24.com reported.

“Confirmed that Iqbal was arrested,” Minister of Home Affairs Kamal was quoted as saying in another report by a daily star.
The police on Wednesday said they had identified from the recording of a youth security camera that “placed a copy of the Quran” in the Puja place in the city of Nanua Digh PAR in Wee October 13, the report said.
While the police have not silenced further information except the arrest, the Hossain family member claimed that he was mentally unstable and someone might take advantage of his condition to make him place the Koran, Dhaka Tribune reported.
Communal violence then spread throughout the country who claimed seven lives and many homes and business of Hindu community, the report said.
Local media reported that six Hindus were killed in separate attacks, but those numbers could not be confirmed independently.
Attack on Hindus has been condemned by the United Nations.
Mia Sppo, the UN resident coordinator in Bangladesh, said in a Twitter post on Monday that attacks on Hindus against Bangladesh’s constitutional values ​​and needed to stop.
On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs transferred seven police officers from the problematic regions for failing to control violence.
On Tuesday, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed the minister at his home to begin immediate action against those who incited violence using religion when he asked people not to believe anything on social media without examining facts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement underlines that the Bangladeshi government “firmly condemned the incidents and recorded serious reactions from within and outside the Hindu community.” Hindus formed around 10 percent of the population of 169 million Bangladesh majority Muslims.
