Chennai: Like more than 40,000 young men Brahmana Tamil found it difficult to find brides in the state, the Tamil Nadu-based association for Brahmana has launched a special encouragement to find matches in accordance with the same community above and Bihar.
“We have launched a special movement on behalf of our Sangam,” said President Thamizhnadu Brahmana (Thambraas) Narayanan in an open letter published in the edition of the Tamil Magazine Monthly Association.
Quoting a rough estimate, Narayanan said more than 40,000 Tamil Brahmana men, in the age group 30-40, could not get married because they could not find the bride from the Tamil Nadu.
Giving a ballpark figure, he said, “If there are 10 boys in the age group, only six girls are available in the state.” The Chair of the Association, in his letter said the coordinator would be appointed in Delhi, Lucknow and Patna to advance the initiative.
Asked when traveling, Narayanan said someone who could read, write, and spoke in Hindi would be appointed at the association office here to do a coordination role.
“I have started working in this matter,” he said.
While some Brahmins welcomed the move, there was also another sight from within the community.
An education, Marawaran M said, “Although quite a number of Tamil Brahmin girls are not available in the marital age group, it is not the only reason for boys who cannot find brides.” He wondered why parents from prospective bridegroom hoped for ‘grandeur and shows’ in marriage.
