Saligao: The collection of waste in Mapusa was largely hampered because five garbage trucks from the municipality were damaged due to lack of maintenance.
Municipality Mapusa has held nearly 12 trucks for garbage collection, which are five vehicles, including compactors, three pedicabs and tempo lying for no reason for various reasons.
The municipality has bought three pedicabs and two years ago, and this has been damaged for more than a month.
Waste compactors have also been closed for the last five days for maintenance desires.
All five wrong vehicles have been sent to the garage for improvement, and this has affected waste collection services.
City workers have expressed concern that if seven vehicles that currently operate fail in the same way, the waste disposal system will stop during the Chaturthi Festival.
Speaking to Toi, Sudesh Tivrekar, a resident and member of the People’s Union Mapusa, said that the municipalities collected waste taxes from citizens, but failed to place the right mechanism for collecting waste.
The Chairperson of the Kotamadya Shubangi Vaigankar said that the garbage truck became damaged due to excess waste.
He said that the government had provided new garbage trucks to the municipality and the registration process was ongoing, after that the vehicle would be included in the service.
