Mumbai: Mumbai Metropolitan Transport Authority (MMRTA) has made it mandatory for all taxis Kaali Peeli has a roof indicator in six months and the deadline is set for June 30, 2022.
According to the rules, the roof indicator will have three options.
Lights, red light will show that the cabin is occupied by passengers, the green light will show passengers that taxis are available for rent and white will give a message that “the driver will not be able to teach passengers.” Apart from the LED light, the indicator will have a letter.
‘For rent’, ‘rented’ and ‘Off Customs’, in English and Marathi language, said source.
MMRTA has also asked all taxis to recalibrate the meter until January 31, 2022, according to the new rates because several meters still show old tariffs.
“If there is a delay in recruitment afterwards, the permit holder will be charged with a large penalty and the permit can be suspended,” said an official RTO.
The source said that a fine can be as high as Rs 5000 per permission holder.
