Hyderabad: The Legislative Council, the Legislative Legislature of Telangana, may have 50% of members if the election is not held at the sixth time the existing vacancies and 12 other seats are scheduled to fall in January 5.
The heat debate in the political circle whether the poll will be held or postponed more Continue because of the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19, leaving the house over almost half empty.
Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the daughter of the Chair of the K Chandrasekhar Rao, is among MLC whose term of office will end together with 12 MLC.
He is likely to get the second term.
Of the 40-member house, six existing vacancies are under the quota of MLAs and 12 others who fall on January 5 are under the category of local authorities.
Even though one chair is empty under the ‘Nomination’ category, the cabinet has recommended the name P Kaushik Reddy and relevant files are waiting with the governor.
The constitutional expert has said there will be no impact on people or passing bills even if 50% vacancies are made on the council as the ruling party has enough members to deal with new laws and reforms, if any.
However, it is the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19 which has caused heat discussions in politics whether the candidates must wait longer than expected.
Already, the sixth selection of MLC vacancies has been suspended once because of a pandemic.
Notification for polls with the constituency of the Huzurabad Assembly has also been postponed because of Coronavirus and other factors.
The Head of the Shasshank Goel election officer told TII that they had not received communication about holding polls to existing MLC seats or polls with the constituency of Huzurabad assembly.
The source said ECI would receive a call to hold a poll in Telangana after the festival season in November the first week.
The source said at least two Dalit candidates tended to reach the council as a high-scheduled caste promotion on the CM agenda.
