Mumbai: Even though it has a lukewarm response, a local train trip (AC) was taken even in the middle of Covid.
Between August 11 (when a monthly season ticket for public members who was fully vaccinated was first excluded – to travel from August 15 and so on) and September 11, a total of 1,288 commuters buy local air conditioning tickets.
“This is a good sign of people who want to travel by AC trains during Covid, and the amount can go up in the near future,” said Western Railway (WR) Sumit Thakur spokesman.
Transport experts say that traveling with an AC aggregator taxi such as Ola and Uber requires a cost of RS 400-700 one direction and the return trip will be more expensive than the right price of the monthly air conditioning – with which can travel without limits throughout the month.
At the same time, sales of one-class monthly trajectory on WR and CR touched one lakh on Sunday.
Experts say this is an indicator that some office visitors choose a train trip and many can switch from private cars or air conditioning taxis.
“Two-class travelers rose more than 6 lakh during the same period and this was mostly those who switched from the best buses and consisted of several mall staff, restaurants and shops, which were open in MMR,” said a senior official.
Subhash Gupta from Rail Yatri Parishad said the train had to sell a one-day trip ticket to be fully vaccinated because many did not want to buy MSTS.
“They are original passengers who need to travel for only one or two days to meet relatives or in an emergency,” he said.
