ColFAax (US): Storm of the main Christmas weekend caused the condition of withoutout and the main highway to close in the midst of blowing snow in the northern California and Nevada mountains, with a warning warning that the trip in Sierra Nevada could be difficult for several days.
A stretch of 70 miles (112 kilometers) was closed on Sunday from Colfax, California, through the Lake Tahoe region to Nevada State Line.
The California transportation department also closed other mountain routes while warning bad visibility and slippery conditions for the driver.
“Expecting a great trip to all the way,” The National Weather Service Office in Reno, Nevada, said on Twitter.
“Today is the type of day to stay at home if you can.
More snow is also on the road!” Weather service issued a winter storm warning for Greater Lake Tahoe until 1 morning Tuesday because of the possibility of “extending white conditions” and wind gusts that can be reached 45 mph (72 kph).
The latest in a series of obese storms hit the southern California with heavy rain and winds flooded the streets and knocked down the electrical channel on Saturday.
Strong gusts overthrow the tree, the carports were damaged and blew the trajectory-and-field from the Goleta Middle School to the front page of two blocks away, according to the Santa Barbara firefight department.
No injury reported.
More than 1.8 inches (4.5 centimeters) rain fell more than 24 hours in Santa Barbara County San Marcos Pass, while Rocky Butte at San Luis Obispo County recorded 1.61 inches (4 centimeters), said weather service.
Los Angeles International Airport said “Electricity issues related to the storm” forced the partial closure of terminal 5, causing post-Christmas passengers to divert to other terminals for certain services.
“Cancellation and delay is possible, so it’s important to check your flight status today if you fly through terminal 5,” LAX tweeted.
In the mountains of the San Bernardino in the east of Los Angeles, the crew fixed the country part of Route 18 which washed away the hillside after heavy rain Thursday night.
The closure of the main route to a large bear ski resort area can last for weeks, officials said.
A sustainable storm was welcomed in dry California, where Slierra Snowpack was at a very low level after weeks for dry weather.
But the State Water Resources Department reported to Christmas that Snowpack was between 114% and 137% normal in the range with more expected snow.
Friday night to Saturday, 20 inch snow (50 centimeters) fell on the hot road on the west bank of Lake Tahoe.
About one foot (30 centimeters) reported in Northstar near Truckee, California, and 10 inches (25 centimeters) on Mount Rose Ski Resort on the southwestern edge of Reno.
