Anamosa: One of the two inmates accused of killing a prison nurse and a correctional officer during the escape attempt to be guilty on Friday to kill and another number and claim to be in court to beat the hammer.
Thomas Woodard Jr., 38, pleaded guilty at Jones County into two first-rate murder calculations, a count of kidnapping and a matter of attempted murder.
Woodard and Co-defendant, 29-year-old Michael Duter, each begged innocently in April with a count on March 23 nurse Lorena Schulte, 50, and Robert McFarland Penitentiary, 46.
Investigators have said the couple used hammer to defeat Schulte And McFarland to death and to seriously hurt a prisoner who tried to stop attacks in Anamosa’s prison.
Prisoners were also accused of briefly holding other female employees as hostages.
Woodard, wearing a jumpsuit orange prison and a heavy bullet anti-bullet vest, did not show emotions on Friday when he answered dozens of questions from the judge about his role in murder.
He answered mostly with “yes,” the simple included when he was asked if he had hit McFarland several times behind his head with a hammer and did he hit Schulte at least twice on his face with the same hammer.
Woodard confirmed that he intended to kill correctional officers, but refused when asked if he intended to kill Schulte.
“I’m just trying to stop him to ask for help,” he said.
The only Woodard emotion shown as a challenging flash of anger when the judge asked if he intended to kill the prisoner who tried to stop the attack, said the injured prisoner “was Snitch and a pedophile, and I had the intention to kill him.
I hope I will hit him once again .
“Woodard motif in asking for the original amount was not clarified during hearing.
Woodard, who served at least 17 years for armed robbery when the murder occurred, now facing mandatory life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.
As part of his request, officials stated that he would be transferred to the Nebraska prison system to present his punishment there.
