Mumbai: A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother-in-law on Friday, two days after he was released from Jerawada Pune prison.
The police said that Abbas Shaikh (42) committed a violation as Shamal Shigam (61) refused to tell him about his daughter’s whereabouts – his wife – who remarried after he went to prison three years ago in a robbery case.
The police said after killing his mother-in-law at his annoying house Parle (East), Shaikh threatened the owner and manager of the nearest restaurant and allegedly extorted Rs 3,000 and took two bottles of liquor before escaping to Pune.
He has also been ordered in a separate extortion case.
The murder occurred at around 12:30 a.m.
when Shaikh visited Shigam’s house and quarreled because he refused to give his daughter’s address.
Shigam died allegedly after Shaikh repeatedly hit his head with floor tiles.
He was arrested on Wednesday, the police said.
