Coimbatore: Civil inventory -Cid police, Pollachi unit, on Friday arrested a man because he had four tons of ration (PDS) of rice.
The person arrested has been identified as S esakkimuthu, 43, from Alwarkulam near SrivaSundam in the Tuticorin District.
The CSCID police carried out an attack on a warehouse located in Jayagandhi Nagar at Pachapalaryam on Friday morning.
The police found the autorickshaw item loaded with two tons of rice.
They also found two tons of rice in the warehouse.
The police confiscated four tons of rice and autorickshaw items.
The police said Esakkimuthu was in a rented house in Chekkan Thottam near Ganapathy at Coimbatore City.
He has an autorickshaw item to smuggle PDS rice to neighboring countries Kerala.
He has collected PDS rice from the public in retrence, Madampatti and its surroundings, they said.
K Muthikulam Village in Lethikulam Village in Tirunelveli Regency, who works as a driver of the autorickshaw item, fled.
