Mumbai: A 30-year-old man was killed and his 22-year-old girlfriend was seriously injured when two unidentified people attacked them as they sat at Mahim Beach on Tuesday.
There was no clarity of motives for attacks on the couple, but the police suspected the killers had known the deceased.
Police said the deceased, Mohammed Waremik Shaikh, and his injured girlfriend was a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Govandi.
The police registered the murder and efforts to kill cases against unknown men.
The police and the local crime branch team held two suspects based on the description given by injured women.
According to the police, the victim and the deceased came to Mahim Beach on Tuesday Tuesday.
After visiting the nearest temple, the duo went to the beach and sat in Tetrapod, which is a quiet place where drug addicts are often visible.
The woman told the police that suddenly two men came and began to hit them.
When Shaikh questioned both of them, they beat them black and blue.
The woman escaped from the scene and was treated at Baba Hospital in Bandra.
Then, the hospital warned the police, who shifted the woman to Sion’s hospital and recorded her statement.
Based on his statement, the police reached a point at Wee Wednesday and found Shaikh’s body in Tetrapoda.
Shaikh was declared dead.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Zone 5) Pranay Ashok said they had several instructions.
Shaikh recently left the driver’s work in Dubai and returned to Mumbai.
He survived four sisters and an old mother.
There are reports that have not been confirmed that the couple just married.
The crime branch is also probing if there is an angle of love in murder.
Residents said there was an urgent need to increase the police on the maham coast because there were drug addicts and beggars who had made their home beach.
The source said that the stretch of Mahim to Worli had a large number of beggars and drug addicts because there were several sacred places from different religions where they were fed by worshipers.
At night, beggars and addicts make their home beaches and the use of drugs is very common there.
