The man who escorted the Dalai Lama on his arrival in India on ’59 died

Assam Rifles Veteran Naren Chandra Das, who had received and escorted the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso on his arrival in India from Tibet in 1959, died on Tuesday.
He is 83 years old.
At the age of 22, the Dalai Lama escaped Tibet, crossing the border on March 30, 1959 and landed at Assam on April 18.
He was escorted to the Indian region by the team seven members Assam Rifles soldier, one of whom was Naren Chandra Das aged 23 at the time.
Das had met Dalai Lama in Guwahati in 2018.
