Mumbai: The Directorate of Income Intelligence has captured the population of Bengaluru for alleged involvement in helping and conspiring with a gold smuggling racket between countries where the gang imports gold with a guise of various ports in the country.
The Mumbai DRI unit on Friday took custody in the 43-year-old Bengaluru population, Raes Ahmed Ikkeri, after he was arrested on February 5 at Bengaluru International Airport.
DRI has held it back on the Lookout Circular (LOC) because the name appears in the golden smuggling syndicate in 2019.
DRI Mumbai is investigating the case of 2019 gold smuggling where the syndicate smuggled a large number of gold stated they were the pieces of brass identified by Kingpin Nisore Aliyar.
Aliyar smuggled gold from the UAE to India through the Port of Mungra.
The officer said that the gold was smuggled in the form of a circular disk or black rod to camouflage the same as the brass memo.
Following specific tip-off intelligence, the agency in March and April 2019 won 170 kg of golden gold and was arrested around 20 people.
Shoeb Zaradarwala, Abdul Zarodarwala, Shaikh Sunday is one of the few key people who have been captured in this case.
During the investigation occurred that the gang was actively involved since 2017 and has smuggled 4,522 kg of gold worth 1,473 crores with similar modus operandi.
Shoeb Zarodarwala told the officials that he had smuggled around 100 kg of gold to one Raju aka Manoj Jain.
Jain, in turn, said that he used to buy gold from Raes Ahmed and gave his contact number.
Raes Ahmed was introduced to him by Shoeb Zarodarwala.
Officials said Riaesh Ahmed first communicated with Jain through Dubai-based cellphone numbers on WhatsApp.
He will check the gold rates of Jain and then tell Zarodarwala about it.
Officials Dri said that they had begun to look for Raes Ahmed, a Bengaluru resident who fled to the UAE.
When Raes Ahmed landed in Bengaluru on Thursday, he was arrested.
He was produced in a local court who sent him to Hakimian detention.
