Ludhiana: The Mayor of Balkar Singh Sandhu has proposed a meeting of the first virtual house Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC), as a precautionary measure of Covid-19, and zonal commissioners were told to make arrangements.
Meanwhile, members of the other party have objected to the proposal that said the mayor tried to avoid answers to council questions about delayed work in their respective environments.
After the emergence of Covid-19, two home meetings took place – someone was held at Rose Garden in November 2020 while the other occurred in Teacher Nanak Dev Bhawan in March this year.
If this meeting takes place, then it will be the third meeting in nine months.
The opposition leader and senior Akali Dal Harbhajan members said, “When the Covid case was at the top, the home meeting took place in open and now when the case was almost controlled, the mayor wants a virtual meeting.
We oppose this virtual meeting because it will not serve the purpose.” He said They will meet the mayor for this problem and will convince him because only at home meetings examined by representatives chosen to get their voices for their ward.
Meanwhile, the Senior Bharatiya Janna Party Board Sunita Sharma said, “The mayor wants to avoid the question of the board members about the management of waste and payment to the company to lift garbage without giving a tender through the right channel.” He said they would not let this happen and would oppose the move.
Member of the Lok Insaaf Party Swarataneep Singh Chahal said the mayor could improve the number of board members in the meeting if he did not want to gather many people in one place.
He said the lip board members would discuss the same thing as the Mayor.
When contacted, the Mayor of Sandhu said, “It is recommended to avoid meeting because Covid-19 and even the state government is not allowed for such meetings, so I have proposed a virtual meeting.” He said if the board members have a problem, he will discuss with them because of important safety especially when the third wave is close to experts.
“When a cabinet meeting can take place virtually, then why is it not a MC home meeting,” he asked.
