Coimbatore: Minister of Health MA Subramaniam on Tuesday examined the prevention of Zika’s virus prevention in Walaka examined the post and in small villages along the border of Kerala, including Mavuthampati Panchayat.
He said the prevention of mosquito breeding, especially Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes, was the only way to keep the Zika virus in the bay.
He said the state did not have a single Zika Virus case at this time.
The minister, accompanied by Food Minister R Sakkarapani, J Radhakrishnan Health Secretary and Public Health Director Dr S Selvavinayagam, examined the fever camp in Mavuthampathi Village near Madukkarai.
They also examined several houses in Panchayat to check the sources of mosquito breeding as part of the preventive measures of the virus.
“We also created awareness among the public that the Zika virus was transmitted by AAEDES Aegypti mosquitoes, which breed in stagnant water sources.
Like plastic pots, damaged ships, tires and discarded,” Minister said.
He also checked the screening of people and vehicles coming from Kerala at the Walaih check post.
