The Ministry of Home recommended discipline actions against former Director of CBI Alok Verma

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Union has recommended a disciplinary action against former CBI director Alok Verma for allegedly abusing its official position and violates relevant service rules, officials said on Wednesday.
They said the Interior Ministry (MHA) had written to the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), the Ministry of Nodal for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to take the necessary disciplinary actions against Verma.
Action, if approved, can include temporary or permanent seizures of pension and retirement benefits Verma, officials said.
During his duty at CBI, Verma, Indian police officer (retirees) of 1979-batch (IPS), was involved in a bitter battle with IPS officers Gujare-cadres and representative of Rakesh Enthana on charges of corruption.
Verma and Asthana have accused corruption with each other.
Asthana is the Delhi police commissioner now.
“Verma has been accused of abusing its official position and violates service regulations.
The necessary actions have been recommended against it by the Ministry of Home,” said a senior official, requested anonymity.
The home ministry is the controlling authority of the cadre for IPS officers.
Dopt has continued MHA’s recommendations to the UNI Public Service Commission (UPSC), the recruitment body for IPS officers, the official said.
UPSC needs to be consulted before forcing a penalty to IPS officers, they said.
Verma took over as the head of the CBI on February 1, 2017 for a permanent two-year term.
However, he was expelled from the post on January 10, 2019 and posted as Director General of Fire, Civil Defense and Houses Guards – a less significant portfolio.
Verma did not accept the offer and wrote to the government, saying he must be considered as considered allegedly because he had completed the age of 60 years of Superannuation on July 31, 2017.
