Ahmedabad: The new cargo terminal built at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) in Ahmedabad, everything will operate next week.
With the required approval, running an experiment also carried out on Tuesday with all shipping operators to adjust to the operation and function of cargo handling in a new terminal, according to the main source.
“All approval needed is in place and the trial is carried out.
It is expected that the new cargo terminal will operate for the next ten days,” said a source.
The upcoming cargo terminal, which is set at Terminal-III SVPI airport which was previously Hajj terminal, will have an estimate of the capacity to handle at least 2,500 metric tons of cargo in one day as learned from the above source.
With the expansion of the cargo terminal, city airports will begin handling more international cargo volumes in addition to domestic inventories.
A favorable source of development also said that new terminals will have updated security together with modern equipment to increase the handling of large cargo volumes more effectively.
The terminal will spread more than 1,500 square meters of parcel on the SVPI airport campus.
At present, all international cargo is handled by the Ahmedabad Air Cargo Complex, which is managed by Gujarat State Export Corporation (GSEC) Limited.
Estimates show that the SVPI airport handles around 60,749 metric cargo tons during the financial year 2020-21.
Being heavy manufacturing countries, various import export shipping consisting of raw materials to finished goods including pharmaceutical products, chemicals, textiles, agricultural products, electronics, precious metals, medical devices and related equipment among others, are handled in the state.
