The Mumbai case was the highest since May 8, when 2,664 cases were reported.

Supplementary City Commissioner Suresh Kakani said that with a quick gain in the case, this city could exceed the peak detection seen during the second wave.
On April 4 this year, Mumbai received 11,206 new cases in one day, the highest until now in a pandemic.
Both countries and cities and cities have not witnessed a rapid increase in cases in the first or second wave, agreeing Dr.
Shashank Joshi, member of the Covid state assignment.
“The third wave is here for Mumbai, and seems to be driven by Omicron because of the three main reasons – the level of doubling is very fast, most people get mild symptoms, and most of the infection breakthroughs,” Joshi said.
He said Omicron might quickly replace Delta.
“But in this transition phase, we should not forget that Delta and Delta Derivatives are circulating, and they can cause serious illness.” On a positive note, death has not shown the upward movement.
Maharashtra reported 20 deaths, taking a total of fatality to 1,41,496.
Mumbai reported a single Covid fatality, taking a total toll to 16,375.
While the case has soared from 112 on December 1, 2,445 on December 29, Kakani said death remained in one digit during the period.
The active case has seen a big leap too.
With the increasing daily detection, 60% of active cases in the country now come from Mumbai.
Of the 14,000 active cases, Mumbai has more than 8,000.
