Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Monday his plan to create a government institution to fight more infectious diseases did not change but would appear only after the coronavirus pandemic ended.
While running for the leadership of the Liberal Democrat Party (LDP) in power last month, Kishida floated plans to form a health crisis management body, but the idea had not succeeded in the LDP main policy list which was announced ahead of the house selection set below October 31.
“I have not resigned (ideas) of the health crisis management agency,” Kishida said to the public debate with eight other party leaders.
“It’s up to the Coronavirus situation whether this command center can be made in time for the current crisis.
But in this infectious disease era, it is important to have a function like a tower like that.” As a new LDP leader, Kishida took over Premiership earlier this month from Yoshihide Suga, who had become very unpopular because he struggled to contain the fifth wave of Koronavirus infection.
In the LDP policy proposed doubling Japanese defense spending into two percent of gross domestic product, Kishida said that the target was not a previous conclusion.
“The security environment changes drastically.
The time has come to think hard about what needs to be done to protect the life and livelihoods of the people.
The actual budget only comes later,” he said.
Natsuo Yamaguchi, Head of Junior Coalition Partner LDP Komeito, on Friday gathered doubts about the LDP policy, told the public, it would not support such an increase when so many social welfare areas needed resources.
Asked about the possibility of obtaining the ability to attack enemy bases, Kishida reiterated that it should be considered as one of the choices, with North Korea arming himself with hundreds of missiles that could reach Japan.
