Here are some great news for fans of Japanese novelists Haruki Murakami! The news is that the new library to celebrate the works and contributions of Murakami to literature was established in Tokyo, Japan.
Right called ‘Library Haruki Murakami’, it will be opened from October 1, 2021 at Waseda University, the alma mater author.
‘Library Haruki Murakami’ was placed in a five-story building designed by Kengo Kuma, the most famous to design the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Stadium.
Visitors to the library entered them through a tunneled hallway.
‘Kuma said the tunnel was the image of murakami’s stories, where the protagonist often traveled between the original and surrealist,’ reported AP.
Commenting on the library, said Murakami at a recent press conference, “I hope this will be a place where students can freely exchange and realize IDE-A free, unique and fresh on the University campus …
I hope the place like this has been built After my death, so I could rest calmly and have someone who took care of him, “he joked.
“I feel a little nervous to see it while I’m still alive,” Murakami added.
The library, officially called Waseda International House of Literature, currently accommodates around 3,000 murakami books, scripts, and other materials, including the translation of their work in dozens of languages and parts of the collection of naps large.
Murakami said that he hoped the library would also include other novelist works “so as a broad research room and fluid.”
It is known that murakami likes to listen to music and also a collector.
The tastes of the music range from classics to jazz and rock, and they are also an important part of the story.
In such a way that, after graduating from the University of Waseda, he started his own Jazz bar called ‘Petercat’.
To honor this, Haruki Murakami’s library also displays his studies replica with a simple table, a row of bookshelves, and recorders, and cafes run by students who serve their favorite dark roast coffee.
Tadashi Yanai, founder of the Uniqlo parent company and waseda alumnus, contributed 1.2 billion yen (US $ 11 million) for library fees.
Murakami’s debut novel ‘heard the singing wind’ was published in 1979.
But it was the 1987 novel ‘Norwegian Wood’ which catapulted it for fame.
Some of its popular novels include: ‘A Wild Lamb Chase’, ‘The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle’, and ‘1Q84’ among others.
