New Delhi: Nearly 5.89 CRORE Income Tax (ITR) has been submitted on the new e-filing portal tax department on December 31, 2021, the maturity date was extended, the Ministry of Finance said on Saturday.
More than 46.11 lakh ITRS was filed on December 31.
To help taxpayers with a smooth experience on the portal, 16,850 taxpayer calls and 1,467 chat were responded to by Helpdesk.
In addition, the department has been proactively involved and reaches taxpayers and professionals to get assistance on their official Twitter handle.
As of December 31, more than 230 tweets from taxpayers and professionals were responded to.
The center on Friday said there was no proposal to extend the deadline to archive the return on income tax.
Overcoming the news conference after the end of the GST council meeting on Friday, Tarun Bajaj’s income secretary explained that the submission of returns went smoothly.
The deadline ends on December 31.
There is a call to extend deadlines given the increase in Covid cases and new variants.
Bajaj said there was no technical problem at all and the number for the submitted return appeared every hour.
The deadline for submitting the return for this year has been extended before due to the second wave impact of Covid-19 and technical disorders related to the tax archiving portal.
Of the 5.89 Crore ITRS submitted for the assessment of 2021-22 on December 31, 49.6% of this was ITR1 (2.92 crore), 9.3% was ITR2 (54.8 lakh), 12.1% was ITR3 (71.05 lakh), 27.2% ITRR4 (1.60 crore), 1.3% was ITR5 (7.66 lakh), ITR6 (2.58 lakh) and ITR7 (0.67 lakh).
More than 45.7% of this ITR has been submitted using the ITR form online on the portal and the balance has been uploaded using ITR which is made from the offline software utility.
