Noida: A team of officials from Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) was attacked by families at Lakhnawali Greater Noida, where they went to check the complaints of electricity theft on Wednesday.
Ritesh Gupta, an executive engineer in the NPCL who filed a police complaint later, said they had received many complaints from theft of power from the area.
“The four member team was sent to the village.
In one of the houses, we found that the family had connected wire directly with the electricity pole.
They also do not have a valid meter,” he added.
The team, said Gupta, took illegal cable photos on their cellphone when they were attacked.
“Rituraj, homeowners, his sons of Prince and Pankaj, and a relatively locked officials in a house.
They were also released there,” he added.
A sub-inspector and police have accompanied the team, but they just stood the audience when the crowd swelled.
After almost half an hour, the additional strength of the Surajpur police station arrived and freed them.
Rituraj was allegedly involved in power theft for several years.
“Previously, when the department officials reached his home, he had created Ruckus,” the official said.
