After facing criticism around the world, the Israeli government was reported to have disturbed and pressured the NSO Group, Pegasus Spyware maker, to block several clients from using it.
The NSO group only sells pegasus spyware for “only the authorized government”.
The Washington Post reports that the company has blocked five governments from spyware while other reports by NPR claim that more ‘clients’ have been suspended because the NSO Group is investigating pegasus abuse.
“There is an investigation to several clients.
Some of these clients have been suspended while,” said the source at the company to NPR.
Israeli government officials recently visited the NSO Group office in Herzliya, near Tel Aviv, “to assess the allegations collected in terms of the company,” as per Ministry of Defense.
Spyware Pegasus is made to help the government overcome crime, terrorism, sex and racket drigs.
However, the explosive report by Washington Post, Amnesty International and several other global media partners revealed how the government used Pegasus to spy on journalists, human rights activists, political opponents and business executives.
One reason why Pegasus was so strong because the company bought zero vulnerabilities before they were reported to technology companies such as Apple, Google and others.
Pegasus Spyware works on devices running Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Symbian and even Tizen.
With Pegasus tools, attackers can get SMS records, contact details, call history, calendar notes, e-mail, instant messaging and search history.
According to product brochures by the NSO Group, Pegasus can lurk whatsapp, Viber, Skype and BlackBerry Messenger.
Pegasus secretly clicked on a photo, recording a call, recording audio around it and even taking the screenshot without warning the user.
Once the spy mission ends, the Pegasus operator can hit the murder switch remotely to remove the agent of Pegasus himself on the telephone of the victim.
