Coimbatore: Tweak in the definition by district administration has doubled the number of detention zones in the past month.

The detention zone increased in the Madukkarai area, Karamadai and Thudiangur.
Of the 85 detention zones, 34 are in the city of Coimbatore.
While Thudiangur, Karamadai and Madukkarai each have 7 detention zones, anamalai, pollachi and tendril blocks each have six detention zones respectively.
In June, there were 288 detention zones in the district, where 162 were in the city.
However, the number fell below 100 in mid-July and fell further to 45 in the last week of July.
The level became 77 in the first week of August and jumped to 85 on Sunday.
A senior health official of Thudiangur said only three cases were reported on the block on Sunday.
But the three areas were declared the detention zone according to district administration instructions.
“District collectors have instructed to declare the area even with one case of Covid as a detention area to curb the spread of further infection.
This has resulted in an increase in the detention area in this district,” the official said.
Meanwhile, 217 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Monday, a slight decline from 225 on Sundays.
The district reported one death because Covid, took the victim to 2,219 deaths.

Of the 2.33,022 cases reported in the district so far, 2,28,397 have recovered.
In Tirupur Regency, 79 new cases were reported on Monday against 84 cases on Sunday.
There is a slight decrease in death.
As many as four deaths were reported on the day against five on Sundays.
The toll of death has increased to 894.
With 81 patients running out, there were 912 active cases undergoing treatment in various hospitals in this district.
