The Odisha government establishes the Prison Development Board to improve prison infrastructure

Bhubaneswar: The government on Thursday is the Prison Odisha development board to improve and modernize prison infrastructure in the state.
The council, led by the Chief Secretary, will prepare a 3-5-year action plan for overall prison development in the state.
The main secretary has been named after the Board Chair while the Secretary of the House, Finance, Law, Income, Higher Education, Skills Development, Women and Child Development, Health, Electronics and Information Technology Department are members.
Director General (Prison and Correctional Services) has made the Convention of Board Members, read the notifications issued by the State House Department.
The board will hold at least one meeting every six months.
The board will examine the standards and living conditions of prisoners in all prisons with specific references to their basic needs.
The board will also work to introduce reforms for prisoners by giving them proper correction care.
It will also suggest new prison constructs, review and recommend measures for development programs, including vocational education and training for inmates.
“Other major functions of the Board are to introduce modern technology and methods for efficient prison management.
The Board can take assistance from various consultants with professional technical knowledge and professional expertise for the prison administration that is smooth,” DG (prison and prison services) said Santosh Umpadhyay.
On the basis of action plans, targets or annual goals will be established.
The appropriate time line and strategy will be done to achieve the goal.
The Board will study best practices from other countries and can take steps to replicate them in Odisha prison.
In the related development, the State Prison Directorate on Wednesday signed MoU with the National Law University of Odisha (NLUO) to hone the skills of prison staff on ‘rehabilitation and correctional’.
The MoU was signed before the Nluo Chancellor and Chairman of the Orissa High Court Dr.
S Muralidhar and Dg Prison Santosh Upadhyay.
