The Odisha Government plans sports infrastructure that can double cyclone shelter

Bhubaneswar: Supported by the successful association with Indian Hockey, the Odisha government on Monday decided to build 89 multi-purpose rooms within 18 months with an estimated cost of Rs 693.35 Crore.
The coastal country that is prone to disaster has decided to build a stadium in such a way that this can also be used as a typhoon and flood shelters if needed.
For health emergencies, sports facilities can also be converted to 50 to 100 beds in hospitals, the need for the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The Country Cabinet led by the Head of Minister of Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal under the Urban Sports Infrastructure Development Project.
Speaking in the steps of the government, the Minister of Sports Tusharkanti Behera said these stadiums, to come in urban areas, will be known as Indoor Biju Patnik Stadium.
“There will be facilities to promote sports such as badminton and table tennis.
In addition, people can do yoga and use the gym.
The structure can withstand up to 200 km, so this can be used as a shelter and flood shelter,” said Behera.
“Apart from world-class infrastructure, there will be training facilities for beginner sportsmen.
This will be the beginning of the new chapter in the history of Odisha sports.
This step will improve sports, health and fitness culture throughout the state,” added the minister.
Government sources say two models will be followed when building a stadium.
For small cities or the area of ​​the area that is notified (NACS), the structure will be relatively smaller, to be built with an estimated cost of RS 6.40 Crore each.
For city cities and cities, this will be bigger and costs around Rs 10.15 Crore each.

The BJP opposition said that the announcement of the Naveen government was motivated politically with the eye in the selection of urban bodies, because since 2018.
“There is no doubt that sports infrastructure must be developed.
But it should not only be announcements,” said the state president BJP Yuva Morcha Irasis Acharya.
