The old and sick chennai dogs don’t have a place to go

Chennai: It has an ear injury full of maggots when the savior takes him to the animal welfare activist Dinesh Baba’s Cloud 9 Care & Rehabilitation Center in Iyyapapthangal.
The nine-year-old dog was treated and rehabilitated but ended again at a shelter.
Now it’s 13 years old, and without ompong, it is one of the many geriatric animals treated in the middle.
Every month, around 25 senior dogs are left on the streets of Chennai.
And the sanctuary is struggling to take care of these animals, which require extra care, attention, and care because many of them suffer from age-related diseases – vision and bad smell, reduction in motorcycle senses, no teeth, kidney digestion, etc.
.
These animals also did not find a home forever, because people preferred to adopt a puppy.
“People leave senior dogs when they fall ill and need prolonged care.
Some say they can’t see the suffering of animals, others just tie them outside the shelter and walk away,” said Dinesh, who has now started a fundraising To raise ₹ 60 lakh on the crowdfunding teacher platform to build old houses and geriatric shelter for small animals.
“We have around 50 dogs, cats and pigs, most of them old, in our shelter.
We want to make a center, which can accommodate around 120 animals, and have identified land in the ECR.
This facility will have a swimming pool and offer physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy.
“While Chennai did not have a dedicated residence for senior animals, another shelter also tried to take care of these animals.
The Indian Blue Cross, for example, has a geriatric ward which is home to 30 animals.
“When we save the injured animal, we treat them and leave them back in the same place.
But when the animal is very old, sick or partially blind, they cannot survive on the streets,” said Vinod Kumar, GM from BCI.
“And, in a month, around 15-20 dogs are abandoned.” Senior dogs are also not adopted.
“People prefer to adopt puppies,” Vinod said.
Animal Welfare Activist Shravan Krishnan said that temporary geriatric facilities were required to care for helpless people, older animals, people should not leave the aged pets in the shelter.
“The sanctuary is intended for wounded street animals.
When people leave their pets at the shelter, it is heartbreaking.
Many old animals rarely live long in shelters.
They are already stressed, in the new environment and miss parents of homes and pets They, “he said.
“The owner says they don’t want to see their dogs die in front of them, but when you leave them it is more painful.
We can provide food and care but the comfort and security of their own home.”
