Hyderabad: Narrow roads and traffic congestion can soon become something from the past because many areas in the old city are expected to be new sports with a wide road and new buildings, thanks to widening large roads and repairs that are happening on the flyover and intersection taken by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
According to Civic’s body officials, local elected representatives came with a new proposal to expand the road in their jurisdiction.
GHM officials said that around 20 roads were widened recently and 22 road work was taken in the past two years, especially in the constituency of Chandrayangutta and Charminar.
Road work is being carried out with a variety of stretches, including Himmatpura to Fateh Darwaza, Doodhbowli to Vazeer Ali, Riyasatnagar Road, Azha Khan Mosque to Daira Mir Momin, Tippu Khan Mosque to Purani Haveli (Cheta Bazar), Rakhapuram Road and Azeem Hotel to the Gate Church.
The city administration department has also provided sanctions for flyovers such as Bahadurpura Flyover, Road-Over-Bridge, Flyover near Owafisi Hospital and works at Zohrabee Dargah Junction.
Work is ongoing.
Officials said that the work of the first major road widening in the old city was taken on the charm for falaknuma stretching, which was expanded to 100 to 40 feet and more than 300 properties were obtained.
Because of the rigid resilience of local residents and property, it took five years to complete the project.
“Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisa has submitted a proposal to GHMC to widen the road in the area including Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Karwan, Goshamahal, Malakpet, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Nampally and Secundalabad.
However, the corporation has not taken all projects due to lack of funds,” Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri , Aimim MLC, to Toi.
The Head of the GHMC City Planner Devender Reddy said that the local population, who had previously been hesitant to release their property, has now given their approval for road expansion work after seeing growth in other parts of the city.
Two roads-Himmatpura and Doodhbowli – have been declared a commercial road by the government, which means that the main commercial buildings such as shopping centers can be built on these streets.
City planning officials said that because road widening increases property value and commercial value, property owners are now looking for expansion of roads.
However, many residents accused GHM taking too long to put the way and not shift utilities such as electricity poles and water pipes immediately during the expansion process.
“Even though the results of the expansion of the road have been taken on many stretches, the problem survives as property and destroys it for widening roads, GHMC postpones compensation to property owners,” Jafri said.
