JaLandhar: Naming the Hockey Team of the Manpreet Singh captain as a bearer of the Indian flag at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics along with Boxing legend Mary Kom has placed the spotlight in Mithapur Village, near Jalandhar.
This will be for the second time Sportserson from Punjab village will lead the Indian Hockey team at the Olympics and will be a flag bearer of the country’s forces.
The first player to have this honor is Singh’s pargate, who participated in three Olympics (1988, 1992 and 1996) and was the only hockey player in the world who was the captain of the country’s team twice, in 1992 and 1996.
