Moscow: The only cosmonaut of Russian active woman, Anna Kikina, will travel to the International Space Station in September at Rocket Soyuz, said the National Space Agency on Thursday.
Kikina, a 37-year-old engineer, will only be the fifth professional cosmonaut of Russia or the Soviet Union to fly into space.
Last year, Russian Space Agency Roscos said “our beauty” Kikina will fly with the Dragon Award X Spacex as part of a cross-aviation agreement between Roscos and NASA.
On Thursday, Roscos said that if the two countries completed the agreement, Kikina would fly into space with America in August, while Rubio Francisco NASA will travel in Soyuz.
But if the deal was unsuccessful, he would travel to the ISS at Rocket Soyuz in September.
The last Russian woman who will fly into space is Elena Serova, who spent 167 days above ISS from September 2014 to March 2015.
Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space when she traveled to orbit on June 16, 1963.
Svetlana Savitskaya is The second woman in space, and the first woman to do spacewalk in July 1984.
In October, Russia was also sent to the space of an actress, Yulia Peresild, who spent 12 days on the ISS shooting scene for the film.
In comparison, more than 50 American women have traveled into space.
Roscosmos also said on Thursday that three Russian cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev, Denis Matveyev and Sergei Korsakov will fly to ISS in March.
“For the first time in the history of the ISS, the Soyuz crew will include three Russian professional cosmonauts,” said the space agency.
A Roscosmos official said this because the contract with NASA on a shared flight was almost over.
“The conversation is currently underway to extend the contract,” said representatives to AFP.
