The opposition blames inadequate police for Spurt in crime in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Even though the government has not yet filled 17% of vacancies in various rankings of the Odisha police, MLA cuts across the party line on Monday expressed concern for the delay in the opening and new police posts.
During the question and answer hours, several MLA from BJD, BJP and Congress said there had been a burst in crime because of the inadequate number of police stations in the state.
Congress Legislative Party leader Narasingha Mishra said it was unfortunate that the government had not taken any action against this problem even though Surya Narayan Patro speaker had directed it to resolve this previous problem.
Responding to the MLA query, the Minister of State for the house of Shankar Mishra said the problem of opening more police stations and posts in the state was under the consideration of the state government.
“We have received representations of several MLA to open as many as 68 new police stations and 103 leading posts.
New police station settings and resolving their operating limits are a long process.
We are considering this problem,” Mishra said.
Taking attention to MLA’s worries, the speaker asked Mishra to hold a meeting with the Secretary of the House, Director General of Police and Crime Branch on this issue and made a statement at home.
In a separate written reply to the house, Mishra said as many as 11,456 posts from different rankings at the Odisha police have been empty on August 1.
