New Delhi: The owner and manager of the cafe-cum-bar at the Southeast Nagar Lajpat Delhi was arrested for allegedly serving Hookah to customers and violating Covid-19 guidelines, police said on Monday.
The owner of the Robin cafe and manager Aditya Sukhram Chaudhary was arrested in this case.
Thirteen hookah and 32 similar receipts were presented to customers confiscated by the police.
The police said the arrest was made on Saturday when the Lajpat Nagar police team was patrolling and conducting a surprise examination at the Cafe Courtyard underpass under The Defense Colony Flyover here.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Esha Pandey said, “When our team reached the place, they found a member of the bar serving hookah to customers.
There is no social distance maintained and no Covid guidelines are followed.
During checking, 13 hookah seized.
Cafe.” Robin (32) and Aditya Sukhram Chaudhary (40), both residents of Sarita Vihar, were arrested, he said.
The case was registered with both under the IPC section of Part 188 (disobedience to order correctly announced by civil servants), 269 (negligent actions tend to spread infection of dangerous diseases for life), 270 (malignant actions likely to spread infection of dangerous diseases) 34 (The action was carried out by several people in the continuation of general intentions), and under cigarettes and tobacco product laws (COTPA), the officer added.
The Delhi government last year prohibited the use of hookah, with or without tobacco, in all public places, including hotels, restaurants and bars, with direct effects to control the spread of Covid-19.
