The parties not to hold political activities in the fields side by side with constituencies where Bypolls must be held: EC

New Delhi: Against the background of “Certain Political Parties” who conducted elections in regions side by side with the district and constituencies where the election was held, the Election Commission on Thursday asked the party to not hold political activities directly related to polls side by side with the district or polling constituency.
The Commission said the existing instructions, regarding the enforcement of the behavioral model code during the election by parliamentary and assembly seats, gave that the application of the polling code would be to the district concerned, which consisted of polling constituencies.
“This has been taken to the notification of commissions that certain parties / candidates organize electoral activities in the area side by side with the district / constituency where the election is being carried out,” Panel Polling said.
“In this case all political parties / candidates are advised not to regulate political activities that are directly related to elections – by even in areas adjacent to the district / constituency where elections are held,” Election Commission (EC) warns.
The district election officer concerned will ensure that the instruction of the model code and Covid-19 guidelines relating to social blasphemy norms was followed in the district side by side with the district and polling constituency, he noted.
In a separate statement, the EC said that if the election consisted of state capital or metropolitan city or city corporation, then model code instructions would apply in the field of constituency only.
In all other cases, instructions will be enforced in all districts that include election elections.
“The spirit of this instruction is that the development and administrative work must continue without the implications of the model code and campaign for selection with selection must be limited in constituencies only,” EC said.
There is a situation that political activities similar to ongoing elections can be held outside parliamentary or assembly seats but in the district, observed.
“Such activities will conflict with the spirit of the instruction guidelines and monitoring Covid expenditure will apply as carried out in the case of political activities.
The district election officer concerned will do all the actions needed in such cases and ensure strict compliance,” said EC.
Bypolls to three seats Sabha seats and 30 assembly constituencies spread across various countries will be held on October 30.
Vote counting will take place on November 2.
