Mumbai: Minister of Environment Aaditya Thackeray on Monday inaugurated BMC’sinitative to improve walkability, pedestrians and urban design interventions for city trails.
The inauguration took place in two of the four demonstration pilot sites in Chembur and omelet.
Officials said that this initiative had been carried out by BMC to create a series of “high standards” to increase walkways and pedestrian areas through a pilot project in a different ward, displaying appropriate and effective urban elements.
BMC said in a statement that Footpath re-engineering with concrete panels with 40-50 years design life to provide a uniform and flat surface giving ease of movement and universal accessibility across the path across sloping and safe roads and safe roads by lighting the road Petapak will be part of the project.
Officials say that the duration of the project is 15 months and the work will be carried out in the phase.
The road in Wadala, Matunga, Chembur, Bandra and Goregaon are part of the project.
