Manila: The Philippines will raise travel prohibitions for all tourists inbound from India and nine other countries starting from September 6 despite the increasing Covid-19 case triggered by a very contagious Delta variant, said President Harry Roque said on Saturday.
President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the recommendation of the Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force to lift the limitation of current travel in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, Xinhua news agency report.
“The international travelers who come from the countries mentioned above will comply with the appropriate quarantine entries, testing, and protocols,” Roque said in a statement.
However, foreign tourists are still prohibited from entering the country except special visa holders such as diplomats and foreign partners of the Philippines citizens.
Local transmission from the Delta variant has spread to the community in the Philippines.
This country has detected 1,789 Delta cases and 33 deaths so far.
The World Health Organization confirmed the transmission of the Delta variant community, said that now the dominant Covid-19 tension spread in the Philippines.
In April, the Philippines imposed a ban on India and was then expanded to include nine other countries with Delta cases.
The Philippines now grappled with a Covid-19 infection that soared.
Southeast Asian countries have reported a total of 2,040,568 confirmed Covid-19, with 33,873 deaths.
