Chennai: The Marina Beach Life Guard Unit is being formed consisting of the Cid coastal security group, firefighting and fishermen personnel to prevent death from drowning at sea.
Minister of Man Chief M K Stalin announced on the floor of the State Assembly while answering the demands for the home-based department grants on Monday.
Lately, at least eight people including five students sank in the sea from Marina, Thiruvottitiyur, Elliots Beach and Neelankarai in the last 15 days.
Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal said, “A team was being made according to the suggestion of the DGP Police Sylendra Babu.
The team will coordinate with the local police.” Shankar Jiwal City Commissioner said the swimmers had been taken from police Chennai, corporations, beach security groups and from the fishing community prevent such death.
A special team will be placed on Marina Beach in a strategic location on the beach.
So they can reach the place if an emergency occurs in the waters.
These teams will have a smaller rubber boat and can in a hurry to the place.
“When one member of the team will be a deep diver, they will tie themselves and jump into the sea to find people who are missing,” said a police officer.
