Coimbatore: Rural police have formed three special teams to capture the gang of five members who posed as officials of the Department of Income Tax (I-T) and took RS 20 lakh from the home of a businessman in Kinathukadavu on Saturday.
According to sources, K Panchalingam, 63, from Vadadur near Kinathukadavu, has a stone mine in Muthur and a private finance company.
On Saturday, a gang of five members came to Panchalingam’s house in the MPV and claimed that they were income tax and CBI officers.
The gang also told him that they came to find his house based on the statement given by the Veeramani auditor.
The gang also claims that they have a search warrant.
At the end of ‘search’, the gang takes Rs 20 lakh cash, iPhone, checkbook, digital video recorder and six leaf checks from home.
The car where the gang comes does not have a registration number plate behind and covers the registration number plate on the front side with bouquets.
Panchalingam told Kinathukadavu police who rushed to the place and held an investigation.
Three police teams were formed to catch a gang.
