Chennai: For almost a month after a 24-year-old man missing, the police on Sunday took his body buried near the market river after key billing.
The police said the deceased, E Ayyappan from the Kanchepuram said in Kanchepuram, was killed by a five-member gang for competition in the wavers of marijuana in Kancheepuram.
The defendant was arrested on Saturday night.
Ayyappan was addicted to marijuana and decided to sell it again when he was killed, said a police officer.
On June 26, Ayyappan lost and his father, Ezhumalai, filed a complaint with Siva Kanchi police, who registered the case of missing men.
Investigation revealed that there was a brewing hostility between Ayyappan and Geng, who also peddled the contraband.
They have warned Ayyappan to stay away from trade, police said.
The police took one of the gang members, Anandan, 24, Pallavarmedu, to be questioned.
“He spilled beans about how he and the four were accused of illness in the entry of Ayyapan into the trade and that they decided to eliminate him,” said an investigative officer.
Anandan told the police about how he and the other four had invited Ayyapan with the pretext of attacking the agreement and hacked him to death on June 26, before burying it at the Bund of Pichavadi Village.
After confession, the police took Anandan to the murder, exploring Ayadapan’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
Other suspects were identified as Selvam, 27; Abi, 24; Muruga, 21 and Sureshkumar, 23.
