The police proposed the ‘Nirbhaya volunteer’ group setting

Written by news2in

Thiruvananthapuram: State police have recommended the government to establish a group of female volunteers by including members of a non-governmental group such as Kudumbashree, Janashree mission and other similar non-governmental organizations.
The female volunteer group, which will be formed under the NIRBHAY program, will be named after ‘Nirbhaya Volunteers’.
They will offer voluntary services to women, especially those who are vulnerable, with the aim of eradicating sexual violence and violence against them.
According to the proposal, a female team will be formed in each district by selecting 10 members of each Panchayat, 30 members of each city and 100 members of each city company.
The selected member will be given a uniform colored Saris with a metal badge for pinning and identity cards.
A Nirbhaya volunteer can report to police officers starting from the rank of sub-inspector to the district police chief.
They must wear special uniforms only when they are on duty together with police officers.
Even though they are provided with uniforms and badges, a NIRBHAY volunteer is expected to adopt passive police techniques and not an active aggressive method.
They can operate quietly and openly with the main purpose of preventing crime against women.
Their duties include telling the police about any crime against women in their territory, collecting relevant data related to violations of children and women, maintaining a watch in daughters who are mentally challenged in the ward, girls who live with father their steps, girls are house alcoholics etc.
They will also secretly maintain the supervision of vulnerable spots where there is an incidence of violence against women and children or places like that are potential points of the crime.
Furthermore, volunteers will maintain vigiles in public transport, and public places and will also share information about sales of arracts, medicines, PAN Masala or other contraband goods to the police.
The police have submitted a proposal as a crime against women and children being up, regardless of various conscious campaigns.
