Chennai: With the abuse of rampant government labels or the ‘G’ sticker on a private vehicle number plate, the police on Tuesday kicked hard action against this vehicle.
Being the first day of hard action, the driver is advised to remove the ‘G’ sticker from the number plate.
The action came after a large number of drivers were found to be misused ‘g stickers’.
The police said many government employees were not entitled to official vehicles using their own vehicle with the name of their department in uppercase stuck in the windshield, besides using the ‘G’ sticker on the number plate, which is a violation.
This was mainly done to avoid police checks, to escape after violating traffic violations or to avoid paying toll costs, a senior police officer said.
The crackdown is currently being carried out in Adyar, ECR, Taramani, Tambaram, St Thomas Mount, T Nagar, Kodambakkam, Mylapore, Ayanavaram and Triplicane area.

While private vehicles employed by the state government and the center cannot place ‘g’ at the plate amount, Instead they can install a printed sheet that states ‘vehicle on the government’s duty’ in the windshield of the vehicle, he said.
According to the rules, government officials cannot place ‘g’ on their own vehicle number plate even if they use it for official purposes.
Those who use stickers ‘G’ can be ordered on charges of cheating, and their vehicles can be confiscated, said senior officers.
