New Delhi: Of the two vaccines currently obtained for the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination, the covishield produced by the Indian Serum Institute (SII) has received the pre-qualification WHO, while the pre-qualification process for Covaxin Bharat Biotech will occur on, the government gave Know Parliament on Tuesday.
In a written reply to the question at Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said the application for pre-qualification was delivered by the manufacturer directly to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Responding to the question when the WHO approval for Covaxin is expected, the minister said the data needed for approval was submitted by Bharat Biotech International limited to the WHO on July 9 “Based on the time taken for other Covid-19 vaccine approval, it is estimated that the WHO-EUL process takes around two to Three months from the date of submission, “he said.
In the steps taken by the government or have been taken to ensure that more approved vaccines approved are available in the country, Pawar said the regulatory norm has been simplified for the import approval and the use of offshore vaccines in India has received an emergency use license (EUL) by FDA United States, Mhra England, PMDA Japan or WHO-EUL.
The Minister further informs that the Covid vaccine produced by Moderna has been approved for import and use in the country by drug controller General India (DCGI).
