New Delhi: War Words between BJP and Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor increased on Thursday with the latter, in connection with developments that occurred in the standing parliamentary committee on the information and technology of “Ping Pong Match”.
“I was very disappointed that some elements on some problems have chosen to reduce this committee to a kind of ping pong match that I don’t believe is in the spirit of parliament or parliamentary committee,” he told MediaPonpon.
Without calling anyone, he refers to the MP BJP Nishikant Dubey report to move the “movement of privileges” against it.
Tharoor said the movement did not have a “validity” because there was no constitutional procedure followed in introducing movements that required the speaker to get home leave before it could be introduced.
However, Dubey hit again and said MP Congress did not realize the rules and had become “frustrated” when he focused on being the leader of his party at Lok Sabha at the place of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
Official sources said the Dubey had moved “Notification of Privileges” at the speaker’s office against Tharoor for allegedly abusing his strength as head of the standing parliamentary committee of information and technology.
This will be for the speaker Om Birla to decide the fate of notice.
The panel set to question government officials on Wednesday on Pegasus Spyware problems was postponed due to lack of quorum.
BJP members from the panel present at the meeting room did not sign a register attendance in a protest that led to the lack of quorum needed to hold a meeting.
Tharoor, who heads the committee, said he was very disappointed with his development.
He took friction on the BJP leaders who said “some elements” have chosen to reduce them to “ping pong matches” which are not in the spirit of parliament.
Asked about the division among panel members along the political line, the former Minister of Union noted that when he was the Chair of the Parliament Committee in external affairs for five years where members worked in a very friendly and cooperative spirit.
The committee also has a strong BJP majority, he added.
