The public toilet does not have basic facilities, still dirty

Coimbatore: Without the right supply of water, doors and buckets, small rooms in the city almost no use for the public.
It is time for City Corporation to take steps to fix problems and ensure proper maintenance.
The recent audit carried out by corporate officials revealed that 42 of 371 small rooms and 1,009 of the 4,628 toilets in the city did not work at all.
They are directly managed by civil bodies or through self-help groups.
The audit also found that 1,646 taps and 1,505 doors did not function in the toilet and there was a direct need to replace the pipe and do pipe work.
“Many toilets don’t have doors and in some cases the hook doesn’t work.
We need to place 3,046 buckets, 2,748 lights, 264 sinks and 482 trash cans in this toilet,” said a source with City Corporation.
There were 91 toilets in the East Zone, 79 in the Western Zone, 65 in the south of the zone and 72 in the central zone.
Because most of these toilets do not have basic facilities, people are forced to urinate and defecate in the open.
P Saravanan, a commuter, said the toilet at the Ukkadam bus terminal was in a sad condition.
“The area smells and because people like it can’t even approach them.
People can be seen urinating in the nearby open space.” A Shahjahan, a resident of Karumbukat, the word free toilet is the worst maintained.
“Comparatively, managed by self-help groups is in better condition.
