Chandigarh: opposed the central step to extend the area of BSF jurisdiction in the state, the Punjab Cabinet on Monday said law and order is the subject of the country and the police being able to deal with any situation.
The Union government has changed the BSF law to ratify the power to conduct a search, seizure and arrest in a stretch of 50 km, up from 15 km, from the international border in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam.
“We truly opposed it.
Law and order is the subject of the country.
The state police, who can end terrorism from the country, are able to prevent any incidents,” Channi said here after leading a cabinet meeting.
“We oppose it,” said the ministerial head, added that the move was not justified.
Such decisions should not be taken without consulting the state government, he added.
A special cabinet meeting will be called for this problem, Channi said.
“If the need arises, the meeting of all parties will be called.
We will take parties (political) other (on this issue),” he said.
Special assembly sessions will be held if needed, he added.
On Sunday, Shiromani Akali Dal targets the Punjab government to the extension of the BSF jurisdiction, by saying the minister’s head must answer “why he agreed” in the middle move.
Last week, the state government had taken a strong exception with the central decision, navigated it as an “attack on federalism”.
It also asks for the center to draw a decision.
