Coimbatore: In many of the 780 government elementary schools in this district, teachers are forced to deal with more than 90 students in class, while the student-teacher ratio must be 30: 1 from grade 1 to V and 35: 1 of class VIII to VIII.
While the government elementary school in Malumachampatti has 120 students in class IV only, only has a teacher to handle it.
Because only 20 students can be permitted in each class now, students will come to school only once a week.
The situation is no different in elementary school at JJ Nagar near Chettipalayam.
M Thangamalai, the parents of class IV students, said there were more than 60 students in his daughter’s class.
“This school has 370 students and more teachers are needed to care for them individually.” A source said the distribution of uneven teachers has affected academic activities in elementary school for a while.
“While some schools have more than enough teachers to maintain a ratio of 30: 1 needed, other schools face teacher shortages.
