The regulator instills the remaining power rates in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: set the stage for another round of power tariff increase, the state electricity regulation commission (KSERC) has directed the state electrical council (KSEB) to submit a revised petition of the tariff before December 31, 2008 which announced the KSERC increase in power tariffs in the state and KSEB yet Submitting a revised petition since then because the government does not want a revision for political reasons.
New multi-year rates, for five years, will take effect on April 1, 2022.
Sources hint that KSERC can even recognize a total increase of 10%, depending on how sedipic KSEB is preparing a revised petition of the tariff.
KSEB said it would make the right decision after diligently underwent new tariff regulations.
How much increase in KSEB will try to depend on various factors, including the fresh financial commitment brought by the recent revised payment.
Meanwhile, Minister of Power K Krishnankutty said on Thursday that there were no plans to increase tariffs.
“Even though the proposal to introduce higher rates for the energy used during peak hours (6pm to 10 nights), KSEB has not received the same call.
This proposal aims to reduce power consumption during rush hour, rather than removing more money than that, “He said.
At the same time, KSERC has dropped some of the main recommendations he made in the rules for determining power rates.
New regulations that were notified by the Commission in November 2021 have dropped recommendations that support demand for various tariff structures for distribution license holders under KSEB.
The Board has strongly opposed recommendations in the field that it will affect its financial position.
It also cancels the advice that excess power must be available to open consumer access at the price of power exchange.
If the control period for the previous tariff is two years, new tariff determination regulations have set it for five years.
This can even exceed five years, if it is considered according to KSERC.
New rates will take effect from 1, 2022 to March 1, 2027.
However, there will be a medium-term performance review in 2024-25 – based on siding numbers for 2022-23 and 2023-24 – and the KSEB review of annual performance (up to September 2024).
It also determined that the third of KSEB’s financial benefits was transferred to consumers as a rebate in the tariff.
But, aggregate losses on utilities cannot be forwarded to consumers.
