Chennai: The country’s PWD authority plans to increase the release of surplus water from Red Hills reservoir and Chembarambakkam in Chennai on Wednesday afternoon.
At the moment 1,500 cubic feet of water per second (cusec) are released from each reservoir.
It is expected to increase to 2,000 cusecs during the day.
PWK began releasing 7,000 cusec water from the Poondi reservoir on Tuesday.
When inflow is slow, the authorities plan to maintain this discharge.
Then at night, they will decide to increase or reduce the release of water from Lake Poondi, a PWD executive engineer said.
